Licences
Extracting the world's resources needs the permission of the Ministry of Labour and Cucumbers. A licence is a right to do one kind of work. You get it by passing a short exam in chat, and you keep it as long as you use it. Open the Ministry with /ministry.
What needs a licence
Without the licence, the Ministry stops you breaking natural blocks of that kind or casting a line, and tells you on the action bar. Blocks you or anyone placed are always free to break, so building is never affected. Mobs can always be killed, in self-defence or otherwise, but without the right licence the state keeps their drops and XP.
| Licence | Covers | Price | Failed attempt | Needs first |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Forestry | logs | free | free | — |
| Excavation | dirt, sand, gravel, clay, mud, snow | free | free | — |
| Quarrying | stone, deepslate, sandstone and the rest of the stone family | ₡120 | ₡40 | — |
| Agriculture | ripe crops, melons, pumpkins, cane, berries, farm animals | ₡120 | ₡40 | — |
| Fishing | anything caught with a rod | ₡240 | ₡80 | — |
| Hunting | hostile mobs' drops and XP | ₡480 | ₡160 | — |
| Mining | all Overworld ores and amethyst | ₡480 | ₡160 | Quarrying |
| Nether Extraction | every Nether block and mob drop | ₡1,920 | ₡640 | Mining or Hunting, and 2 hours worked under it |
| End Operations | End blocks, chorus, End mobs | ₡2,880 | ₡960 | Nether Extraction, and 2 hours worked under it |
Start with Forestry and Excavation: they are free and only need their exam. Iron needs Quarrying and Mining together (₡600). Until then, iron comes from chests or from someone who has both.
Prices are set in hours of work, so every paid licence earns its price back within hours of that work. The Ministry shows how many, at today's prices.
The exam
- 10 questions in chat, one at a time, 60 seconds each (a bar at the top counts down). Click an answer to file it; typing does nothing.
- The questions cover the game, the economy and the Ministry itself, and at least one is absurd. When in doubt, the most properly bureaucratic answer is usually right.
- Pass mark: 8 of 10. You only see which answers were wrong at the end, with the right ones beside them.
- Pass: the price is taken and the licence is yours at once. If you can't pay at that moment, the pass stands for 24 hours: pay it from
/ministry. - Fail: a third of the price, and 10 minutes before you can try again. The next exam draws different questions.
- Leaving the game mid-exam ends it: no fee, but the same 10-minute wait.
Keeping a licence
A licence you don't use for 30 days lapses. Taking its exam again is then free.
